Constipation Basics

©Patricia Heredia

Except for a tiny percentage of specific cases, constipation is easily and completely correctable. Constipation contributes to: allergies, arthritis, skin problems, prostate problems, female problems, headaches, overweight, all colon problems from diverticulitis to cancer. NOTE: A small number of individuals actually have little control over their problem. This is congenital constipation. It is rare and the individual is born with a deformed gut. The colon is grossly elongated or has sections without nerve or muscle tone.

The causes for constipation are:

  1. Prescription Drugs. First make sure your medication is not making you constipated. Your physician will be able to tell you.
  2. Lack of water.
  3. Lack of exercise.
  4. Diet - a steady diet of processed foods will cause all kinds of problems, not the least of which is constipation. If your diet is made up of almost all cooked foods, you will probably always suffer from constipation. Raw foods contain enzymes which aid in digestion contribute to a healthier colon.
  5. Lack of fiber - Most people would not recognize a healthy stool, because it is different from what many have learned. When you have plenty of water, fiber, and roughage in your diet, your stool should be large, soft, and somewhat loose. Loose does not mean runny, but a well-formed (usually small and tubular in shape) stool is generally not a healthy stool.
  6. Oil - lack of oil or the wrong types of oil (hydrogenated) in the diet will also contribute to constipation.
  7. Nutritional deficiency - the greatest nutritional cause of constipation is lack of sufficient vitamin B in the diet. If there is an insufficient vitamin B, the muscular action will be impaired. The end result can be constipation and a flaccid, stretched out and even prolapsed colon.
  8. Hormones - a sluggish thyroid can interfere with the hormones that aid in gut reactions. Many thyroid conditions go undiagnosed, this can be an insidious problem and a serious cause of constipation. As long as you suffer from sluggish thyroid function, you may find it impossible to become regular and enjoy normal bowel function.
  9. Structural problems with the colon - most of these are readily correctable. The most common is a combination of "lazy gut" (usually brought on by a vitamin B deficiency) and prolapse.
Now, how about just plain talk about the ashes of the body-the caste off waste of the human digestive system. For many who are unacquainted with this material, it will come as a new revelation. Others who are already familiar with this information will welcome the voicing of the truth.

At least three-quarters of the modern civilized people are suffering to a greater or lesser degree from constipation (i.e. autointoxication) and its baneful results. This is contrary to nature and the cause is so easily removed. Why should this state of affairs be allowed to continue? There can only be one answer - ignorance of the cause and the cure.

The information provided to you will aid in removing the curse of our race i.e. autointoxication. Bringing people back to nature is a key in restoring vital health to our society. We can all have vital health! All that is necessary is to know the facts and follow the laws that Mother Nature has set forth. The present health problems now facing the modern civilized world are the consequences of not following nature's laws.

INTRODUCTION

More and more of us living in the U.S. are choosing to recognize our self-responsibility for health and well-being. This has led to a renewal of interest in so called natural, holistic methods of living and healing the body. One of these methods, as old as man's civilization, is cleansing the colon. Originally, it was accomplished by squatting in a stream bed and drawing water up into the colon, then expelling it. In Ancient Egypt a ram's horn or gourd was hollowed out and utilized as the first primitive colonic irrigation machine. Later, enema pots and plants shaped in the form of plastic tubing (reeds) were constructed. Sophisticated colonic irrigation equipment was perfected just at the turn of the 20th century.

Unfortunately, many who are interested in colonics are quite ill-informed or misinformed about them, including the members of the health profession. This booklet is an attempt to dispel the lack of or misinformation that now exists. The form used throughout is question and answer. These have primarily been questions asked of the author, colon therapists and other natural health care professionals. An attempt has been made to answer the questions in a way that would represent the viewpoint of a majority, if not all, professional colon therapists.

Obviously, colonics are given by real people in real therapy rooms. Following the last question, a brief scenario is presented of what it would be like to receive your first colonic at our office.

Common Questions and Answers ... The Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy
  • Effectively removes stagnant fecal material from the colon wall, preventing build-up of bacterial toxins in the portal and lymphatic system, resulting in a reduced load on the liver.
  • Periodic cleansing would minimize toxin accumulation due to bacterial fermentation and putrefaction of proteins and carbohydrates. These toxins are treated by the liver and excreted by the kidney (Some are absorbed normally). Hydrogen and methane gases are produced which can be absorbed and excreted through the lungs. Thus, halitosis may be a symptom of a stagnant colon.
  • A cleansing program would discourage intestinal toxemia which further results in conditions such as: headaches, allergies, irritability, malnutrition and can lead to an overall lowering of an individuals mmunological system.
  • The principle involves drainage outwardly through the rectum and inwardly via the portal and mesenteric lymphatic system.
  • Offers effective management of the acute fecal impaction and constipation conditions.
  • Provides therapeutic improvement of colon muscular tone beneficial to the atonic bowel condition.
  • Excellent therapy for the mucous colitis condition.
  • Useful in geriatric patient care.
  • Valuable application as a preparation procedure for diagnostic evaluation of the colon including: Barium enema, colonoscopy and surgery. This method does not result in dehydration to the patient.
  • May be applied to all patients undergoing general anesthesia as it would reduce problems associated with bowel function due to general anesthesia following surgery. Also would minimize the incidence of defecation in the surgical suite, while saving valuable surgical time.

SUMMARY

The indications for Colon Hydrotherapy include: Acute fecal impaction, constipation, colitis, diarrhea, parasitic infections, atonic colon, mucus colitis, flatulence, bloating, hemorrhoids (mild), intestinal toxemia, nutrient supplementation, diverticulosis, and preparation for Barium x-ray, colonoscopy or surgery.
